OUR STORY

Welcome to maggie may's – off the coast ! The first maggie may's opened in a bustling little Gulf Coast Town called Bay St. Louis, MS in February 2004, representing local and regional artists and artisans. In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina pushed 4 feet of water through the gallery and displaced many of our clients and artists across the nation. maggie may's was lovingly restored in Bay St. Louis and re-opened one year later. We knew that the local artists needed additional representation so we looked for a second location in a city that loved original art and appreciated fine American craft – Nashville, TN was calling!

If you ask how'd you get to Nashville – we'll answer Brad Paisley and his wife Kimberly had a baby….The first three times talking about Nashville or visiting the City, Brad Paisley was a featured story in The Tennessean, so it was Brad who helped us move here. So, Brad, when you travel through South Nashville, come and tell us hello!

In reality, Nashville was listed as one of the top 25 Art Cities and one of the top 25 most affordable cities in which to live…

South Nashville is a booming Southern City with an urban edge amidst nearby farms – a perfect vision for maggie may's – off the coast . Our artists have followed us and we proudly work to showcase original works in varied mediums and to tout the fine craft by nationally recognized artisans…We're open 7 days, so drop by and see what's happening at maggie may's – off the coast and …

Join us in celebrating the ARTS in South Nashville and in welcoming our featured artist every Second Saturday of the month with a gallery opening. The shops of Lenox Village host A Second Saturday in the South Nashville from 5:00pm – 8:00pm every second Saturday of the month! Come meet our business owners, have a glass of wine, listen to the rhythm of our local musicians, meet new artists and enjoy a scrumptious dinner – all in South Nashville…are you in?...

Maggie May's Story

On All Saints Day 2002, Maggie May bounced into our lives. Beardog, our 13 year old Chow/Shepard mix, was out for an earlier than usual morning walk to accommodate our plans to visit the cemeteries and leave mums for all of our loved ones passed. As we neared the local coffee shop Bear stood up extra straight and started wagging his tail furiously. He and Maggie May had made eye
contact. While they said their ‘hellos' I asked around to find out who the short black dog belonged to. The response was the same each time I asked: “Oh, that's the dog with a note on its collar. Been hanging around all morning.”

Hours later, after taking both dogs home (Beardog was hopelessly in love) and visiting the cemeteries we finally read the note. The note, pinned to her collar, began, “I'm 89 years old and dying…” and went on to talk about the dog's favorite food, date of birth, and the owner's hope that someone would find her and love her since she herself could no longer keep her.

So we kept her. And we named her Maggie May.
